Rain Water Harvesting Operational At Yamuna Block
Dear Residents -
The Residents welfare association is pleased to announce that a Rain Water Harvesting (RWH) system has been implemented on Pilot basis in B1 and B2.
As you are aware of the looming water problems which gets aggravated in summer and we are dependent on tankers to supplement deficit regularly. Since Bangalore enjoys nearly 7 months of rain and the rain water being one of the purest form of water, it is only natural to implement the RWH to supplement the source of water.
Some of the state government has made RWH mandatory for example, Delhi and Tamil Nadu and Karnataka government is working towards a policy driven approach to harness rain water.
The Yamuna block had unanimously agreed to pilot in one of the blocks to augment the water supply. This not only reduces dependence on borewell or tanker but also acted as a responsible citizen by taking the initiative.
Some of the benefits of rain water harvesting:
1. The reduction in dependence on tankers and other sources
2. The reduction in electricity charges in running the borewell
3. Once the initial cost is recovered, it is literally free as it involves nearly zero cost maintenance
4. Water is pure and soft compared to borewell water which is highly contaminated in Bangalore
5. We are utilising water which is otherwise getting wasted
We are monitoring the utility of the system through this monsoon and based on the feedback, we can plan to extend to other blocks.
RWH would like to thank all the residents for their support and cooperation in taking this step and helping us achieve water independence.
Some pictures of the system is attached.
Regards,
RWH committee Members
